Ink Black Roses & a Shadowy Castle – The Perfect Gothic Wedding

Jade & Rhys – August 2023

What a spectacular day I had with this awesome couple. Jade and Rhys wanted to fully embrace their style on their wedding day, and I had the perfect shots in mind for them. I met the couple at the steps of the Colchester Town Hall ready to start their ceremony. This building is stunning, with stained glass windows inside and ornate statues. It was the perfect fit for this couple and I had so many ideas as I stepped into the building! Before we even started the ceremony I had taken some fab shots of the couple at the Town Hall, taking advantage of the time before their guests arrived.

It was a small and intimate ceremony, with the couple’s closest family and friends. It was a lovely service, made even better but with some personal touches. After the ceremony, the couple had rented out part of a pub down the road, so we walked through Colchester Town Centre towards the castle. It was an incredibly unusual part of the day, as the couple got congratulated as we walked through the street, but actually lovely for them to be able to walk together for the first time as husband and wife through the city.

Once we reached Colchester Castle, I took Jade & Rhys off for their private shoot. These castle grounds are incredible, and suited this couple’s style down to the ground! I had so much fun taking these shots, we walked around the whole grounds finding new and interesting places to take photos. We had a good laugh and I am so pleased with how these shots came out. The couple kept on being congratulated by onlookers and it felt like a real fairy tale moment for them to be together in these amazing grounds.

After this, we got everyone together to take our group shots. Again, we had the perfect backdrop of the castle behind us, so I made sure to utilise this! After we got the normal groups, I always made sure to do some fun ones too and even got a picture of someone almost falling and taking the bride with him!

Overall, I had a fantastic time with this couple. This is my first Gothic wedding and Jade had put so much effort into all the fine details, it really was incredible and I was so excited to try a new style out to match their look. I thoroughly enjoyed editing all these photos and after showing them to Jade & Rhys they are over the moon with the photos.
